background colour

i want to be able to change the background colour of an article when it is displayed in the main-top position of selected menu items
I've tried changing it in the css but it is affecting other elements.

i have created a module & used the articles anywhere extension to display the article, that works but i still get the article displaying on the menu item / page too.
