How does your template control the Content position on the Home page?

When I make an article a featured article I don't see it posted on the Home page. Where is it posted?

If I disable system output then the sidebars will not display properly. Also all pages are not displayed.

If I unpublish the article that is displayed in the front page as shown in the demo I get page not found. Also it seems I can’t display other article in the front page other than changing the content of the existing one. Where do you set the setting to have which article to show in the front page?

Also what to do if I want no article to display in the front page but still have system output enabled?

How to do this in x2 template?
